Therapy is an emerging area of psychotherapy, which deals with the process of mental health and wellness through the use of various therapeutic techniques and approaches, often through the interaction of an individual and a trained therapist. Therapy may deal with a broad range of mental disorders or with a specific one like post traumatic stress disorder.

Psychology, which is also known as psychiatry, is the field that is concerned with the study and treatment of the human mind and behavior. Psychologists in general study human behaviour and emotions, and the effects that these behaviours and emotions have on other individuals, groups and societies. This discipline is also known as therapy.

Therapists are trained and certified psychotherapists who offer psychotherapy services. A psychotherapist is a qualified professional who offers psychotherapy services in the form of counseling, psychotherapy, group therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, marriage counselling and family therapy. Therapy is widely used by different mental health organizations and clinics. Therapy can also be done individually by an individual.

Research psychology deals primarily with the scientific study of human behaviour, while clinical psychology deals with the treatment of people suffering from mental illnesses.

In the field of psychotherapy, a person can undergo various types of psychotherapy such as, cognitive-behavioural therapy, psychodynamic therapy, relaxation therapy, social skills therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy and group therapy. All of these types of therapy are effective in treating mental disorders.
